General & Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Education: DDS
Dr. John E. Seylar grew up in Queens and knew, from a very young age, that he wanted to be a dentist. He attended New York University College of Dentistry, where he was awarded his Doctorate of Dental Surgery. After completing dental school, Dr. Seylar briefly practiced in Westchester and Roslyn. Then he met Dr. William O’Shaughnessy and began a partnership of more than 30 years in their downtown Bay Shore, NY, family dental practice. Dr. Seylar enjoys the variety of his days: caring for patients of all ages from different walks of life. For him, the bonds of friendship that develop with his patients and their families are the best part of his profession. He is committed to providing each patient with expert, individualized dental care, and helping them achieve the smile of their dreams. Dr. Seylar and his wife Joanne live in West Islip, where they raised their two daughters. When he’s not working, Dr. Seylar enjoys being the “handyman” around his house and can often be found working on his latest home improvement project.

With the ongoing threat of coronavirus, the American Dental Association has issued a guideline that all elective dental procedures be postponed for three weeks. We have decided to follow this guideline and, thus, will be rescheduling appointments starting the week of April 19.

However, to address any dental emergencies that may arise, we will be maintaining office hours Monday through Saturday throughout our Lake Success, Huntington, Howard Beach, Astoria and White Plains locations listed below.

We’ve also added teledentistry so you can connect with one of our expert dentists  through your laptop, tablet, or smartphone and have a face to face consultation. You can call us at 855-PHD-CARE or 718-DENTIST to register for an appointment.

Please be assured that our offices are being operated under CDC guidelines including screening all patients who pose a risk of having coronavirus.

We will also be available via email ( and telephone (855-PHD-CARE or 718-DENTIST) to answer any questions or address any clinical concerns you may have.

We know these are difficult times and want to do all that we can to fulfill our mission to address not just your dental and oral health needs, but to promote your overall health and well-being.

We thank you for your understanding and look forward to seeing you when we resume normal operations . In the meantime, please do all that you can to stay safe and healthy.
